Web Management and Updating

Details on web management...

Looking after your website after it's been published.

The ongoing maintenance of your website is highly important. The main requirement is the updating of web pages and to keep the site looking fresh.

The worse thing to put off visitors is a site which is plainly out of date. For example, still having details of forthcoming events long since past or seasonal critical stuff being portrayed as current. Sadly, there are many examples of this on the web! Further, a regularly maintained site is favoured by the search engines as it's of more value to visitors.

A new product, service, or latest information to give your visitors are all reasons for updating your site. One of the beauties of websites is the ease, swiftness and relative cheapness of changing content compared to printed media.

How often your site needs updating varies and depends very much on the type of business. Some could need updating daily, others twice a year. Most would fall somewhere between these extremes, but it's good to get into the habit of regularly checking your site and thinking 'is there something I need to change/add/remove on my site?' Remember, a website is not a 'publish and forget' commodity!

Website management could also include:

  • Adding extras such as an RSS feed
  • Supplying site statistical information
  • Additional ongoing search engine optimisation
  • Supplying search engine positions
  • Sorting out any problems that may arise

For sites that require frequent updating an annual management service contract can be implemented or for less frequent requirements the management can be done on an 'as and when' basis.

In fact, web management can be anything you want it to be!
